Video Profile of Local Young Photographer Sarah Little

The Community Relations Council presents a video profile of a young photographer, Sarah Little, and the creation of her creative photography project that aims to highlight climate change as one of the 21 Artists for the 21st Century by the NI Office.

The video profile documents the creation of the unique series of photographs and includes an interview with the young photographer.

Natural Connections Photographic Exhibition, Colin Glen Library – 20th September

Belfast Exposed is delighted to partner with Translink on a photography competition to capture the ‘Natural Connections’ which has sustained, surrounded, supported and encouraged people and communities since 23 March 2020, the first day of lockdown.

This last year will leave a permanent memory on the lives of people around the world. A number of everyday life experiences have become an essential part of our wellbeing. The importance of nature in our lives, from a small flower in a garden to climbing a newly discovered hill, or just sitting on a beach listening to the waves, never before has the connection to nature become more crucial.

The exhibition can be viewed during library hours.

Shared Learning Educational Visit

15 young people from Strabane Town will get the opportunity to be involved in an educational trip to two museums in Derry City. This will allow the young people to see both sides of the political/religious divide via these local museums and learn about some of our history which will help to increase their understanding of community belonging.

Smashing Times Virtual Exhibition

Emotional Landscapes, is a multi-disciplinary virtual Art Exhibition with visual images, poetry, words, music and discussion.

This exhibition is inspired by an artistic response to peace, health and well-being, influences of the pandemic, and themes of health and happiness intersecting with new borders of time and space in a changing landscape.

EU 1979 – A People’s Parliament is an interdisciplinary virtual art exhibition remembering and celebrating the 67 powerful women MEP’s elected to the 1979 first European parliamentary elections. This unique exhibition features artwork created in response to and inspired by the names and biographies of all 67 powerful women MEP’s elected to the 1979 first European parliamentary elections. The women are acknowledged as trail blazing role models to inspire future generations.

The Churches Trust: Celebrating Youth Creativity

The event will showcase the creative work (digital, literacy, artwork) generated by young people that participated in T:BUC-themed projects during Covid.  The event will include the launch of the ‘Creative Well Being book’, a key output of the ‘Community of Homes’ project, focused on breaking down barriers and uniting communities.

The event will bring people of different faith traditions together to celebrate a range of projects that young people have participated in to break down barriers and improve attitudes between young people from different backgrounds.  It will show models of good practice and act as an inspiration for further development work.

Connecting through COVID

This is the launch of a booklet documenting the experiences of some local residents during the pandemic.

The event will include the presentation of a COVID quilt. Each square on the quilt tells one of those stories.

This is the result of a joint Twaddell and Duncairn Community Partnership project.

 

Roots: An Afro-Caribbean Hair Conversation & Q&A Panel Event

As part of Good Relations Week 2021, Libraries NI will be hosting Q&A Panel Event ‘Roots: An Afro-Caribbean Hair Conversation’.

This panel event will focus on the cultural significance, heritage , sensitivities and social pressures of hair for people from African and Caribbean communities or of African descent.

This Libraries NI event will be led by Beyond Skin in partnership with House of 4c Salon and Lush UK Belfast. It will focus on the cultural significance, heritage, sensitivities, and social pressures of hair for people from African and Caribbean communities or of African Descent.
