First Screening of Celebration Event Mandarin Speakers Association

This will be the first screening of a video that was recorded of the events which our young people organised during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This included Chinese folk dancing, Chinese New Year celebrations through Zoom, singing and learning Chinese language and art together in classes. The young people will also speak about their experiences and struggles during the Pandemic and the brighter days ahead for everyone.

Sing 2 Songs

A collaborative cultural project as part of the Blueprint Programme in partnership with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). 

The music project shows the connection between Bulgarian culture and the district’s local music, dance and traditions. The project was directed by musicians Veselka Ivanova and Nikolay Ivanov. Over the period of 2021 participants met over zoom and when restrictions eased they were able to meet face to face to record a music production.

The video will be released 22nd September as part of Community Relations week 2021

The Latvian Society of Cavan and Northern Ireland present the dancers of Latviesu Biedriba sharing their passion for folk dancing through their outdoor performance of the Kricburgas polka and midsummer celebration dance.

Erne District Chinese Families’ and Friends’ Association

Erne District Chinese Families’ and Friends’ Association promotes Chinese culture, language and traditions to ensure future generations are aware of their heritage.

The group shares the celebration of Chinese culture through traditional Chinese music, singing and dancing, calligraphy and cooking and the Story of the Laughing Little Flower told in Mandarin by 8-year old Lee Shin.

The Community Relations Council presents a video profile of a young graphic illustrator’s interpretation of the ‘Brighter Days Ahead’ theme using watercolours.

Anna McKee has designed a unique graphic illustration for Good Relations Week 2021 that provides her interpretation of the ‘Brighter Days Ahead’ theme and your concept of identity, belonging, home, diversity and peace-building for the youth of today.

The video profile documents the creation of the unique graphic illustration and includes an interview with the artist.

Belfast Skate Collective Video Profile

The Community Relations Council presents a visually impactful video piece that shines a light on the Belfast Skate Collective in what the group is doing to provide a voice for the local skating community, and as a way to push for more public spaces to be created for young people.

Living Library ‘Ethnic Minorities’ – BHSCT

Living Library: Ethnic Minorities Staff Network have coordinated volunteers to share:

  • Hello & Welcome in their first language
  • Talking about their home country
  • Discussing their favourite foods from home

This will be shared on Belfast Health & Social Care social media platforms Friday 24th September.
